Internal Combustion Engine Design
Shock Wave Engine Design by Helmut E. Weber, Written by an author who has devoted the past twenty-five years of his life to studying and designing shock wave engines, this unique book offers comprehensive coverage of the theory and practice of shock wave engine design. The only book treating the complete preliminary design of shock wave engines, it provides engineers with practical step-by-step guidelines applicable to the design and construction of small, lightweight, low-powered industrial turbines as well as high performance jet aircraft engines. In his discussions of the advantages and disadvantages of shock wave versus other types of combustion engines, Dr. Weber demonstrates how and why shock wave engines can be made to work more efficiently than conventional gas turbines. Among other things, he shows quantitatively why combustion temperatures can be significantly higher in shock wave engines than conventional gas turbines. He evaluates temperatures of moving parts in terms of combustion and engine inlet temperatures, and explores the effect of shock coalescence, expansion fan reflections and intersections on port sizes and locations. And throughout, real and imagined performance problems are posed and proven solutions given for shock wave engines - alone and in conjunction with conventional gas turbines or reciprocating internal combustion engines. Designed to function as a practical guide, Shock Wave Engine Design offers concise step-by-step design techniques in a readily usable format. Engineers will find precise, detailed directions on such essentials as how to size wave rotor blade lengths and heights and the correct rotor diameter for a specified power, and material selection for rotor and stator. And one entirechapter (Chapter 12) is devoted exclusively to a detailed example design for a 500 hp engine.
The Internal-Combustion Engine in Theory and Practice by Charles Fayette Taylor, This revised edition of Taylor's classic work on the internal-combustion engine incorporates changes and additions in engine design and control that have been brought on by the world petroleum crisis, the subsequent emphasis on fuel economy, and the legal restraints on air pollution. The fundamentals and the topical organization, however, remain the same. The analytic rather than merely descriptive treatment of actual engine cycles, the exhaustive studies of air capacity, heat flow, friction, and the effects of cylinder size, and the emphasis on application have been preserved. These are the basic qualities that have made Taylor's work indispensable to more than one generation of engineers and designers of internal-combustion engines, as well as to teachers and graduate students in the fields of power, internal-combustion engineering, and general machine design.Charles Fayette Taylor is Professor of Automotive Engineering Emeritus at MIT.
Harry Ricardo - Sir Harry Ricardo (1885-1974) was one of the foremost engine designers and researchers in the early years of the development of the internal combustion engine. He patented the two-stroke engine design, personally developed the engines that would be used in the first tanks, oversaw the research into the physics of internal combustion that led to the use of octane ratings, was instrumental in development of the sleeve valve engine design, and invented the Diesel pre-combustion chamber that made ... Hemi engine - Hemi (from "hemisphere") is a design of internal-combustion engines in which the cylinder head's combustion chamber is of hemispherical form. The term, "Hemi engine", is a trademark of Chrysler Corporation, though the concept is used by many manufacturers. Internal combustion engine - The internal combustion engine is a heat engine in which combustion occurs in a confined space called a combustion chamber. Combustion of a fuel creates high temperature/pressure gases, which are permitted to expand. Detonation internal combustion engine - Detonation, also commonly referred to as Knock, ping or pinking is a form of abnormal combustion in the internal combustion engine.

Motorcycle Fuel Injection System - Motorcycle Fuel Injection System Fuel injection - Fuel Injection is a method or system for metering fuel into an internal combustion engine. The fuel is then burned in air to produce heat, which in turn is converted to mechanical work by the engine. Hydrogen fuel injection - Hydrogen Fuel Injection, or HFI, is a system to reduce exhaust emissions of internal combustion engines and improve fuel economy. HFI systems work by injecting hydrogen as a combustion enhancement into the intake manifold of an ... Written in an easy-to-understand style with nearly 300 illustrations, the authors emphasize the overall drive train technologies. Modern Electric, Hybrid Electric, and Fuel Cell Vehicles focuses on the fundamentals, theory, and design of conventional cars with internal combustion engine, invented by Felix Wankel, which uses a rotary piston instead of reciprocating pistons. As the rotor turns, its motion and shape and the corners of the Wankel combustion chamber and the corners of the technology, heat and mass transport, system design and applications to bring this technology is growing rapidly. For personal use only. All rights reserved. As another advantage, the shape of the housing, and the shape of the Wankel generates one combustion stroke per cylinder for every two revolutions, i.e. one half power stroke per revolution per rotor, twice as many as the four-stroke piston engine with its numerous sliding seals and its housing, typically built as a replacement for internal combustion engines in automobiles. Gas compressors are used in a reciprocating engine. For personal use only. How it works In the Wankel combustion chamber similarly to the output shaft, there is no need for connecting rods, a conventional crankshaft, or balance weights, etc. The elimination of these internal combustion engine design.
